Book Review: Homemaking (1)

The Nesting Place: It Doesn't Have to Be Perfect to Be Beautiful By: Myquillyn Smith Recommend or not, to whom, for what reason: Yes. Every woman creating a beautiful home, yes. Myquillyn challenges perceptions  of what it means to make a beautiful home, and what it means to have a home, and every woman living in real life needs the insights of this book.  3 Things of Interest: 1   1.  This book is full of beautiful quotes and pictures, all of which are taken in her real-life, imperfect home which will never be "finished" as she challenges the idea that we will ever be done creating a beautiful home. It is a process of a life time. Life changes and needs of life change so the function and flow of our homes need to change with us. 2   2. "I've given up trying to control our circumstances and instead am determined to create a home wherever we are. And that's made all the difference." This quote from chapter 1 has explained my exact feelings over ...

Book Review: Parenting (2)

AUTISM: UNDERSTANDING THE PUZZLE By: Sharla R. Jordan Illustrations: Amy L. Seiter Recommend or not, to whom, for what reason: Yes. I recommend it to anyone who doesn't know much about autism, and wish to understand better. I also recommend this book for the exact intent it was written. That intent is to help those who need a place to begin on their autism journey but are completely overwhelmed by where to begin. That is why I picked up this book, after putting it off for 3 years. I now feel more confident and hopeful that I did before, and deeply grateful for this resource. 3 Things of Interest: 1.      I appreciated this book explaining some of the various difficulties accompanying autism, and it's challenges. Some I knew, and others were new to me. 2.      Appreciated the parenting view and responsibility modeled in this book. It seems autism invites a greater degree of righteous parenting based in love and respect, rather than a broken one bas...

Book Review: Healing (1)

He Healeth The Wounded Heart By: D. Ryan Porter Recommend or not, to whom, for what reason: Yes. I recommend it to all Christians seeking to understand how to better apply the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ for healing, whether from personal sin or sins against them. Particularly recommended for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Some of the references used are pulled specifically from their books of scripture and leaders of their Church, but can be understood generally, and well, by a member of any Christian faith.   Anyone seeking to understand what the Atonement of Jesus Christ means for them right now, today. 3 Things of Interest: 1.     Suffering and its usefulness. Everything in life is meant to give us experience. Pain is a valuable part of the experience. Understanding that, and knowing what it is meant to help us accomplish is powerful. I have many close friends and family members who have left any faith in Christ be...

Because I promised

I don't have anything important to say. But I promised I would write and post every Thursday and I am out of alignment with that promise. We're looking for a house, and finding where our family will live long term, while also seeking to LIVE LIFE NOW, here, where we are right now. Because life doesn't stop moving just because we don't have a part of life worked out yet. What do you do to live life, even when not everything is figured out yet?
